Getting Cavemode working.

Setup takes under 60 seconds. Here's the cookie grab + troubleshooting for the handful of things that can go sideways.

Setup

  1. Install Cavemode into your Applications folder.
  2. Open claude.ai in a browser and log in.
  3. Open DevTools — Cmd+Option+I.
  4. Go to the Application tab → Cookies → claude.ai.
  5. Copy the value of the sessionKey cookie.
  6. Open Cavemode → Settings → paste the value → Connect.

The key lives in your macOS Keychain from that point on. Cavemode polls your usage every 60 seconds and does nothing else over the network.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid session key" right after I pasted it

Make sure you copied only the value, not the entire cookie line. The value is a long base64 string starting with sk-ant-sid01-…. If it keeps failing, log out of claude.ai, log back in, and grab a fresh sessionKey.

Usage stuck at 0% or doesn't update

Claude's usage endpoint rate-limits itself occasionally. Right-click the menu bar icon → Force Refresh first. If it's still stuck after 10 minutes, check whether claude.ai shows your usage correctly in a browser — if not, it's on their side.

I'm on Enterprise SSO — does this work?

Yes, if you can log into claude.ai via a standard browser tab. Cavemode reads the same sessionKey cookie your browser stores.

The character never dies, even at 100%

Cavemode reads the higher of your session % and weekly %. If your weekly % is at 100% but your session just reset to 0%, the app picks the max — which keeps the caveman dead. That's by design.

Settings says "License revoked"

cavemode.app build only. Polar can revoke a key if the order was refunded or the activation count exceeds the seat limit. Open Settings → License → tap Re-check now. If revocation is intentional, contact support@cavemode.app with the order ID and we'll sort the seat count or issue a fresh key.

"Offline grace until …" appears in Settings

cavemode.app build only. Polar's revalidate ping (~every 30 days) couldn't reach the network. Cavemode keeps working through the grace window. Get back online and tap Re-check now to clear it. No action needed if you're just travelling.

Mac App Store: "Waiting for approval from your family organizer"

Family Sharing's Ask to Buy is on. Apple has paused the purchase pending approval. You'll see Cavemode unlock automatically the moment the organizer approves it — no need to re-tap Buy.

Mac App Store: "No prior purchase found"

You're signed into a different Apple ID than the one that bought Cavemode. Switch Apple IDs in System Settings → Apple Account, then tap Restore purchases in Cavemode → Settings → License.

I want a refund

14-day no-questions refund. Two paths depending on where you bought:

  • cavemode.app build (Polar.sh) — open the Polar customer portal link in your purchase email and click "Request refund". The order ID is the polar_… string in that email.
  • Mac App Store build — go to reportaproblem.apple.com and request a refund for the Cavemode purchase. Your order ID is on the App Store receipt Apple emails you.
